About 15 years ago, Doris Crockett’s friend asked her if she would fill in for the City Secretary position until we found a replacement knowing that Doris had the experience for the job. Now, fast forward 15 years - were still happy to say the City of Bullard’s City Secretary is Mrs. Doris Crockett! Doris says her favorite thing about her job is , “Serving and helping the people of Bullard. I’ve also always had an interest in learning the ins and outs of the law, so I feel like this is what I am supposed to be doing.” If she had to pick one thing that makes her successful in this current role, it would be all the years of experience she has under her belt.
Doris’s peers agree, saying –
“Doris is the go-to person for questions regarding ordinances, laws, zoning, etc. She has a strong knowledge of the law and enjoys teaching others! She is always very helpful and willing to answer my questions!”
Before the City was lucky enough to get Doris on our team, she had worked with the City of Tyler. She said her favorite memory in all her years in this field was being able to co-author the Joint Election Plan with one of her peers and implement a process that she brought with her to Bullard which we still use today!
Some fun tidbits about Doris:
-She originates from Douglass, TX, a small town 15 minutes outside of Nacogdoches & attended SFA (AXE ‘EM JACKS!)
-She has lived in Tyler, TX for 52 years & been married to her husband for 53 years
-She is also known as “Honey” to her 3 Grandchildren: Greer, Grayson, & Henley) & “Mom” to her 2 children
-She enjoys traveling & spending time with her family in her downtime
-Fun Fact: She was a basketball S T A R in high school – All-District 2 years!
The best piece of advice she has ever been given was:
“My Mom would always tell me, ‘Be Good & Do Good,’ which has always stuck with me!”
We are thankful to have Doris Crockett as the City of Bullard’s City Secretary!
